The Girls' Network Breakfast

The Girls’ Network Breakfast

In November 2016, 6 Group hosted a breakfast event to support the launch of The Girls’ Network in Manchester.

We had a great turn out of around 50 women from various backgrounds and industries from entrepreneurs through to finance professionals within large corporate environments.

There was certainly a vibrant atmosphere in the room, considering the early start and traffic dramas. Many of the ladies were sharing stories of that one lady that inspired them at an early age – certainly the reason that The Girls’ Network resonates with me personally. One lady told me that it was amazing to be in a room full of women who were actually able to be themselves and all excited about inspiring the next generation.

Charly Young, Director and Co-Founder kicked off the morning she provided us with some insight into how The Girls’ Network has already changed the lives of so many girls;

  • 100% of girls felt confident about how to get to where they want to go – 83% felt very confident
  • 100% of girls said they now had confidence to ask unprompted questions
  • 76% of girls exceeded their target grades

We also had the opportunity to hear from a mentor and mentee who have been working together over the last year – you can watch the video here.

Charly also discussed the notion that there is a mentor in every one of us, we are all inspiration in our own way and each have the ability to change a life of a young girl.

Hayley Misell, the network manager for the North, updated us on the success The Girls Network has experience in the Manchester area since they arrived in September. They have already hosted a mentor training programme and have a number of Schools signed up for the January start. They are now calling for more businesses and individuals, Ideally around 300 people, from a range of professions to sign up to the mentoring programme.

Oonagh Werngren, Chair of Trustees, closed the event and provided an inspirational insight into her career and how we can all inspire a future generation. Oonagh’s passion definitely inspired the room and she encouraged us to share the story of The Girls Network with our connections. At 6 Group, we are personally delighted to be supporting the charity and will continue to do so for many years.

If you do have any further questions around how to sign up to become a mentor, please give us a call and we will point you in the right direction.
